Real Estate Team, we are excited to share some great news for Florida’s hardworking frontline and essential workers: the Hometown Heroes Housing Program has officially reopened! This initiative is designed to make homeownership more accessible by offering much-needed financial assistance with down payments and closing costs.

What’s New This Year?

Thanks to the advocacy of Florida Realtors®, the program has received an additional $50 million in funding during the most recent legislative session. This means more qualified Floridians will now have the chance to benefit.

Eligible applicants can receive up to 5% of their first mortgage loan amount, with a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $35,000. The funds can be applied directly toward down payments and closing costs, removing one of the biggest barriers many families face when buying their first home.

Who Is Eligible?

This program is designed specifically for Florida’s frontline and essential workers, as well as service members and veterans. Applicants must be first-time homebuyers and employed full-time by a Florida-based employer. Occupations include:

  • Health care workers

  • School staff members

  • First responders (law enforcement, fire, EMT)

  • Public safety and court employees

  • Childcare workers

  • U.S. military service members, Coast Guard, Florida National Guard, and reserves

  • Veterans employed full-time in Florida

This year, first responders and other critical service roles will be prioritized to ensure these heroes have access to the funds before they run out.
